Can I deploy from GitLab, Gitea, or another Git server?

Yes. Forte deploys from GitHub, and most Git servers can push a mirror to GitHub on every commit. Your server only makes outbound connections, so it can stay behind your firewall.

Set it up

  1. Create an empty private repository on GitHub.
  2. Install the Forte GitHub App on it.
  3. On your Git server, add a push mirror to that repository. Use a GitHub fine-grained token with read and write access to its contents.
    • Gitea / Forgejo: Repository settings → Mirror settings → Push mirror. Turn on "Sync when new commits are pushed".
    • GitLab: Settings → Repository → Mirroring repositories, direction Push.
    • Bitbucket Data Center: use the Mirroring settings or a post-receive hook that runs git push --mirror.
  4. Create your service or website in Forte from the GitHub repository and pick the branch to deploy.

Notes

  • Deploy on push works as usual. Deploy on GitHub release needs a release published on GitHub, which mirrors don't create. Use a branch trigger instead.
  • Mirrors copy history and branches, not issues or pull requests.
