Migrate to Forte
Moving your app to Forte gives you configurable access to built-in authentication, autoscaling, observability, and security in minutes. Connect your GitHub repository, test the Forte deployment, then move production traffic when you're ready.
Let Forte handle it
For teams moving a production workload, the Forte team runs your migration with you — planning the move, standing up your Services and Websites, and switching your traffic over with minimal downtime.
Book a free 15-minute call and we'll map out a migration plan for your setup — or hand the whole move to us.
Migrate it yourself
To migrate on your own, deploy the app on Forte, test it, then move traffic.
Services (backend APIs)
- Create the Service on Forte from your GitHub repository. See Deploying services. You can start by deploying the same code you already run today. Forte automatically provides scaling, DDoS protection, request logs, and metrics for all Services.
- Start with Forte authentication off by excluding your routes from authentication (exclude
/**). Your app keeps running its own auth, so nothing about its behavior changes yet. - Test the Forte endpoint end to end against the generated
tryforte.devURL until you're confident it matches production. - Cut over DNS by adding a custom domain and updating your DNS records.
- Adopt Forte features incrementally — once you're live, move auth, payments, and more onto Forte at your own pace to unlock the full benefits of Forte's production platform.
Websites
Websites migrate the same way, with no authentication step to worry about:
- Create the Website on Forte from your repository. See Deploying websites.
- Test the generated URL until the site matches production.
- Cut over DNS to your custom domain. You immediately get Forte's global CDN, caching, and TLS.
Migrating your users
Moving existing accounts onto Forte's user management needs a short conversation to map your current auth data across correctly. Contact support to plan the user migration.
